All monthly Insurance checks now being paid lo the 105 social security beneficiaries in Piko county will bc raised substantially, beginning with the September checks, according to John R. Chatficld, manager of the Portsmouth Social Security Office. Hc explained that these ou- . tomatlc increases, for September, arc scheduled to reach local beneficiaries during thc first week in October. Increases will range trom about 50 pcr ccnt to about 100 pcr ccnt. For example, lhc average primary benefit of approximately $26 per month tor a retired worker a ill bc increased to about $46. A widow with 'two chiidrcn who had been receiving $55 a month wlll now received about $110 altogether. Mr. Chatficld said that under the old terms of the social security law thc 105 beneficiaries in this county would havc received about $1,710 tor the month of September. Undcr the new increases,., however, total payments for September arc estimated to bc about $3,451, or on Immediate Increase ot somc $1,721 monthly ln Insurance-benefits to this area. A very important aspocl of thc new legislation Is thc morc hb-T.il qualifying conditions. Mr. ChaUtcld pointed out that ccny Individual now age 63 or snore who has at least six-"quarters of coverage" may bc immediately eligible for monthly benefit payments. It has been. estimated that a considerable number of old people ln this arcs may qualify tor Insurance payments under this clause.
