Well, I finally got my furlough to Swltxcrlend and I had a wonderful timc there. I went with David Roosc and wc were Sone for ten days in all. As usual on furlough*, the time passed by very rapidly. . Wc left the hospital, here on the hot evening of Junc 2T and rode a "GI" truck to Chalons sur Marne. We arrived there a little early and finally got our train at about 8 o'clock. Wc got on what we thought was thc Strausburs-Mulhouse train, but found .later it was thc Mctr, Verdun and Frankfort, Germanv train, and also that we wcre j going by the wrong azmulh. Wc • didn't mind much since nclthr-r | of us had ever been to Germ- * any, and decided Immediately to go on to Frankfort although our orders didn't call for It. We had an extra day to travel, so wc thought that we might as well go. There were big, long' soft scats on the train, so we laid * down and slept until wc , got so cold wc couldn't. We got * up at about 4:30 and found we were in Germany. We noticed that thc people were up* and about and were working on . their small hillside farms or in I thc Mnall towns. There Is a rc-! markablc difference In the peo- • pie of that country from thc! people of France since they are j ngt quite to lazy and are much more cleaner people, but even this does not compare with thc j ■ people of Switzerland. We ate breakfast on the train that morning aftcr wc had stop- pt-d at a little place about an hour from Frankfurt. All the Germans wcrc standing in thc station with their market baskets and watching the people eat on the train. Wc finally arrived in Frankfurt about 8:30 and went to the Red Cross and WAVERLY, OHIO,' THUR3 DAY, AUGUST 29, 1946 BOOK YOUTH ON Pike Horses Win At; FORGERY CH'RGERoss County Fair Race horses owned by Pikc.
