J. J. UPTON IS TAKEN BY DEATH Waverly Minister Dies At Doctor's Office Io Portsmouth. The officers and -executive committee of the Ohio Association of County Commissioners,' meeting at the Neil House In Columbus, on April 12, formal-: ly endorsed a program of tuberculosis control as advocated;' by the Ohfo Health Department and sponsored by thc Joint Committee on Tuberculosis Control In Ohio. . On a motion by Oliver Kuhn. Stark County, and a second by C. P. Laudorbaush, Franklin County, the commissioners voted unanimously to "go on record as being In favor of the tuberculosis control legislation as recommended by thc Ohio Department of Health. John O. Lois and J. Edwin Farmer of the Joint Committee on Tuberculosis Control in Ohio speaking at the meeting, pointed out that the state govern-: ment has not assumed any responsible for the care of the tuberculous and In 1944 did not; appropriate any money what-' ever to the Health Department for a tuberculosis program. The speakers further stated that thc larger counties arc over-burden-: ed with the task of trying to operate large tuberculosis hos-: pitals and the smaller counties have Insufficient funds with which to finance thc hospitalization of their active tuberculosis cases. Thc specific legislation which the commissioners endorsed calls for a payment by the state of $2.50 per patient, per day to the county commissioners to assist them in paying for the care of tuberculosis patients In approved hospitals; and the building of five new tuberculosis hospitals, making 1100 new beds available to all counties, but particularly the 90 smaller counties in the. state with no tuberculosis Hospitals. The commissioners also approved an appropriation of $30,000 per annum for the Division of Tuber- culo.tis ln thc Ohio Department of Health.
