Immunize Pullets Against Fowl Pox 1 .illeU vaccinated with fowl po* vaccine will be Immunized tor life from fowl pox. Poultry husbandry specialists st Ohio SUte University say this method of protecting next winter's egg tup- ply can be done best by vsorin- atiag the pullets when they are between six and fifteen weeks old. Outbreaks of fowl pox In the laying flock may cause slight or heavy mortality ot birds snd always cause a marked drop in egg Uying for six weeks after the flrst hens become sick. Fowl pox ■not only causes serious damage by itself but slso weakens birds so they often sre attacked by colds or roup. Pullets are vaccinated in the wdb of the wing. A sewing me- chine needle mounted ln a cork piece of wood is thrust through the web after being dipped in vaccine. A double puncture is recommended, and the treatment can be speeded up by placing two needles half an Inch a part in the cork. Successful treatment it Indicated In 10 dayt by a slight sweil- '_g and small sc_- st the point cf vsccinstion. Pullets which already are immune will show no reation; but, absence of 'reation in the whole flock shows Impotent vaccine, too much dilution at the vaccine, or faults in the treatment. Fowl pox vaccine ss.ll cause s severe physicsl reaction if birds older thsn IS weeks are treated. If treatment has been delayed too long, poultrymen are advised to wait until pullets are in the laying house and then treat them with pigeon type vaccine which produces only a mild reaction and a limited period of- l__n__ity. Poultry specisllsU say vaccines carry live germs which can cause dliease to the material should not be spilled on floors or equipment, and any part unused should be burned. Manufacturers of each brand of vaccine give directions tor its use snd those should be followed carefully. BACK PROM MINNESOTA Miss Maxine Mercer, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. E.
