_«--___ THE WAVERLY WATCHMAN, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 1M3 No. 1 of a Series of 6 Advertisements Sponsored by These 30 Business Firms lhe Chairman Comments on Some Candid Questions About Your Red Cross ... At the head of the greatest humanitarian organization that the world has ever seen is Norman Davit, lawyer, industrialist and statesman. Appointed by the President of the United States to meet the tremendous .problems of world-wide war relict", he works with quiet energy to raise and spend the millions that the public gives each year. '-. 1. Yes, the sums thst we stk of the public art large in spite of the fact thtt 95% of the labor involved it volunteered. But tbe necessities of world relief .nd out Congressionally author- bed obligations to the Armed Service, justify every dollsr of expense. Over forty million dollsrs spent linrt Pearl Harbor for services to the Army and N.vy, increasing a. tbe armed force, increase, and the war fronts multiply. And the in.itt*- .1 just .. rapid in the requirements of Foreign Relief snd Home Service. > 2. Peth-pt it', your fault if you htven't "teen the figure*.*' We publish them ss fast as tb. Wsr Department auditor, can give them to us, and if you htven't happened to tee them a* published, your local Chapter hu than for your inspection. 3. No, it't not a complicated organization snd far from a top-he*»y one. We in Washington, through the Central Committee, ar* the pinning bond. There sre eighteen of us. Th. President of the United States appoints th. Chairman, .nd five other, to represent government departments. 't*!ie others ate elected snd thc Chapters hsve full represents tion. Policies snd over-all plans com* from thit Central Committee, but both policies snd plsnt are in thc hands of tb. Chapter, for adoption and operation. There it every lifeguard to keep th. Red Crott democratic. , J_ •A Peoples' Partnership 4. Ad the question* thst yoa can think of about Red Cross gct answered very quickly when you're in the work itself. You commence to realu* m hat a tremendous army of good will th* Red Cros. is and what a big part it it playing in making thit poor old world s little better plac* to live in. There are many wiyi tot you to help. Your chapter welcome, voluntatis. So many of us are in it, sll oyer th* country in little towns snd big cities. Buiinett men working thoulder-to-thoulder on Chapter operations. House wives tsking hours from home in the production rooms. Women who volunteer for Nurte't Aide or Motor Corpt or Canteen Work. And a reserve coming up of millions of school children in the Junior Red Cross. And thst is jutt thc bom* front. Out .over the worid stretches the big businest" of administering Red Cross relief. It is toll the peoplet' buiinett, msde possible with their money, and their good will. A businest of warehousing, trucking, car- loading and shipping. Of tont and tont of food and clothing and medical supplies, and of personnel snd organization to get it sll to where it ii needed in time to be of the greatett good. "Big businest" in the best meaning of the terra and it it tuch businest and the msn power that goes with-it thst hat nesrly shsorbed the millions thst you give to the Red Crott War Fupd a ycar ago—every penny of it went to the needt of war. lhe Chairman Comments on Some Candid
Questions About Your Red Cross ...
At the head of the greatest humanitarian organization that the world has
ever seen is Norman Davit, lawyer, industrialist and statesman. Appointed
by the President of the United States to meet the tremendous .problems of
world-wide war relict", he works with quiet energy to raise and spend the
millions that the public gives each year.
'-.
1. Yes, the sums thst we stk of the public art
large in spite of the fact thtt 95% of the labor
involved it volunteered. But tbe necessities of
world relief .nd out Congressionally author-
bed obligations to the Armed Service, justify
every dollsr of expense.
Over forty million dollsrs spent linrt Pearl
Harbor for services to the Army and N.vy,
increasing a. tbe armed force, increase, and
the war fronts multiply. And the in.itt*- .1
just .. rapid in the requirements of Foreign
Relief snd Home Service. >
2. Peth-pt it', your fault if you htven't "teen
the figure*.*' We publish them ss fast as tb.
Wsr Department auditor, can give them to us,
and if you htven't happened to tee them a*
published, your local Chapter hu than for
your inspection.
3. No, it't not a complicated organization snd
far from a top-he*»y one. We in Washington,
through the Central Committee, ar* the pinning bond. There sre eighteen of us. Th.
President of the United States appoints th.
Chairman, .nd five other, to represent government departments. 't*!ie others ate elected snd
thc Chapters hsve full represents tion.
Policies snd over-all plans com* from thit
Central Committee, but both policies snd
plsnt are in thc hands of tb. Chapter, for adoption and operation. There it every lifeguard
to keep th. Red Crott democratic. ,

4. Ad the question* thst yoa can think of
about Red Cross gct answered very quickly
when you're in the work itself. You commence
to realu* m hat a tremendous army of good will
th* Red Cros. is and what a big part it it playing in making thit poor old world s little better
plac* to live in.
There are many wiyi tot you to help. Your
chapter welcome, voluntatis.
So many of us are in it, sll oyer th* country in
little towns snd big cities.
Buiinett men working thoulder-to-thoulder on
Chapter operations.
House wives tsking hours from home in the
production rooms. Women who volunteer for
Nurte't Aide or Motor Corpt or Canteen Work.
And a reserve coming up of millions of school
children in the Junior Red Cross.
And thst is jutt thc bom* front. Out .over the
worid stretches the big businest" of administering
Red Cross relief. It is toll the peoplet' buiinett,
msde possible with their money, and their good
will. A businest of warehousing, trucking, car-
loading and shipping. Of tont and tont of food
and clothing and medical supplies, and of personnel
snd organization to get it sll to where it ii needed
in time to be of the greatett good.
"Big businest" in the best meaning of the terra
and it it tuch businest and the msn power that
goes with-it thst hat nesrly shsorbed the millions
thst you give to the Red Crott War Fupd a ycar
ago—every penny of it went to the needt of war.
And mow another War Fund must ha col.
lotted. Tha President of tba United States ha*
designated March as the Rod Cross month.
Yoar Chapter* needs yoor help.
