Description | Samuel Galloway (3/20/1811-4/5/1872) was born in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Miami University at Oxford, Ohio, in 1833 and began the study of law. He married Joan Wallen in 1843. In 1844, they came to Columbus when Samuel began serving as Ohio Secretary of State. He served in that post from 1844 to 1855. He served in the United States House Representatives from 1855 to 1857, before resuming his law practice. Galloway was a personal friend of President Abraham Lincoln and was appointed by him to serve as Judge Advocate for Camp Chase. |
