Description |
Stephanie Hightower was a collegiate track star at The Ohio State University. From 1977 to 1980, she did not lose a race in the 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles or the 100-meter hurdles, and earned Big Ten Conference, NCAA and National championship titles. She was unable to participate in the 1980 Summer Olympics, due to the US boycott of the games. She won a silver medal at the Pan Am Games in 1987. She holds the world's record for the 60 yard hurdle in 7.36. Hightower served as Communications Director for the Ohio Dept. of Mental Health 1988-1992, worked as press secretary for the mayor 1992-3 and became special asisstant to the mayor in 1993.; Husband is David Baker. In 1999 she took charge of the world championship track and field team in preparation for the next Olympics. She is the current president of USA Track & Field. |
