Hart, John L., Stable Sgt., Duncannot, ^^^ going tioi>?s—we ■--• '^ uaun. and home addresses of every member of the 77th. We hope, in later years, it will prove a reminder to you of the days you spent in the ranks of the Silent 77th and of our humble journalistic efforts in your behalf. Back in Kaisersesch last month it was suggested that the regiment have a newspaper. The minstrel show and other forms of amusement had been successful. Boxing and basketball were take-.: up with keen interest. All the regimt.nt seemed I to lack was a newspaper. Though our facilities were limited (the type was set by hand in a "small-time" shop) we got one out, a two-page affair and a bit amateurish. But you didn't laugh, so we appealed to you for co-operation and you responded. And here we want to thank every man in the regiment who contributed or supported financially our venture. To you must go +he credit for our success. When we moved to our present area I we found improved printing facilities, so wre increased the paper to four pages and included art in our little weekly. That was not to be the least of our efforts. We had planned something even better, but that order—oh, welcome order—to move came and as a result this issue is our "swan song." ail" Vimex freedom of speech it is believed that not | | One instance of abuse of this freedom was | I recorded. At times our columns were | pretty hot and certain members o*" the j regiuaent were slammed to a fare-you-vvell. I But all of this banter was taken iu "gouu j spirit. No libel suits have been brought to our notice and we trust "everybody's | happy." Our surplus marks were expended on j this issue, which is free. We request | various orderly rooms to see that every member of the regiment be provided with a copy of this issue. Adieu, good friends.
